Gaining Certainty In Uncertain Times
Welcome to late summer! This seasonal time of year in Chinese Medicine is ruled by the Earth element, and it has everything to do with digestion. Not only do we digest food, but mentally we digest our experiences. With the current energies right now, we can chew on ideas, and this could lead to scrutiny, forming opinions, and if we are out of balance lead to being stubborn, rigid in our thinking, or obsessing about things. During this phase we are undergoing refinement. We have the ability to become certain about life, and if there's an imbalance in our body, this can take some changes to achieve. As the season of late summer is a transition into fall, what this means for us is our bodies are needing to make adjustments to many things. If we are worn down already during this time, we can be more vulnerable to becoming sick. The earth element is all about nourishment.
We can learn during late summer how to nourish ourselves by enjoying the harvest. Taking in all the fresh fruits and vegetables that are presenting themselves is one piece of this. Taking an inventory of what we have harvested throughout the year can help us see the bigger picture, and appreciate how far we have come. We may even feel compelled to go through things, get more organized, more planning, and to be more thoughtful, without getting carried away in overthinking. Worry is the primary sign of the earth element being out of balance. Also, any actual digestive issues coming up will show that the stomach and spleen are needing assistance to work in harmony. In order to stay well we need to take things in stride and be willing to make the needed adjustments. Whether that means to get more sleep, start a new routine, begin a new workout plan, think about doing a fall cleanse, or just have more compassion for ourselves amidst where we are in life.
If we are in flow, we will have the earth elements ability to manifest things into our lives. We can also have more sympathy for others. And on the flip side, if out of balance we can feel sorry for ourselves. Remember if you are upset not to eat at that time, so it won’t affect your digestion. Avoid any uncomfortable topics during meals with others. Wait for these conversations until after your food has settled. Nervousness can be another sign of imbalance. In balance we can be compassionate for others shortcomings, and communicate more effectively even in difficult situations. If you are noticing any signs of imbalance, there is no need to fear this. Getting in for Amma Therapy will help the organs become balanced, giving you the ability to make the changes necessary to feel stable, become certain and stay well. Coming to my upcoming Getting Out of Pain With Conscious Communication class will help you to understand how to communicate in more effective ways. And, we must address our eating habits at this time and add in more chewing, mindful eating and gratitude will support a healthy earth element. This will turn those thoughts into the wonderful manifestations that you are creating.
Happy Digesting!
